Meet our Resident of the Month!

August’s Resident of the Month: Robert Wayne Marshall

If you pass Robert in the hallway, dining room or activities area at Brookside, you know Robert because he looks for the fist bump from you.  He was born on August 6, 1955 in Philadelphia. Similar to all the Marshall children, Robert received piano lessons from his father, Calvin Marshall and later learned to play the trombone. He was accepted into the Jenkintown Music School as a music student to receive advanced instruction on the trombone. His educational studies include receiving an Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology in 1976 and his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Spring Garden College in Philadelphia in 1979.

Always looking for a better position with more responsibilities and benefits, he moved around the country with jobs as a Mechanical engineer, CAD Operator, Computer Assistant, Project and Tool Engineer.  These jobs took him to Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Missouri, North Carolina and Virginia. Finally settling in Virginia, Robert began looking into becoming a Real Estate agent and attended classes to procure his license. With license in hand, he was his own real estate agent as he bought his home in Toms Brook, Virginia in 2005.

Robert maintained his interest in music and played the trombone or percussion in community and church-praise bands. In 2015, Robert suffered a massive stroke and is now a Brookside resident. You’ll see his family – mom, sisters and brother – always around to visit him. He still enjoys listening to music, talking about sports and eating sweets.
